Usually I pick a song from Glee's episodes. But because of Glee is in hiatus and this song is just too catchy to ignore, I picked this Pretty Little Liars's soundtrack. The first one is the clip from the serial . .

Adam Lambert was the guest star in this Halloween episode. He dressed as glam vampire which I like. He was singing two songs in this episode. The episode itself was so creepy and pumped my heart! It was sooooo gooodd! I can't wait for the next episode :D

Love in Paris

Trust me, I am not a fan of Indonesia's opera soap. But when SCTV, one of national televisions planed to aired an opera soap that takes place in Paris, how could I say no? :O

Love In Paris tells a triangle love between Yasmine (Michelle Zudith), Rafa (Rio Dewanto) and Reno (Dimas Anggara). They coincidental meet in Paris. Conflicts start to happen there. Not only conflict in Yasmine's love life, but also her fight with Aqila (Yunita Siregar), her twin. This Screen Play Production's will aired Monday to Sunday, start October 22 (TONIGHT!), 7-9 pm.

I was almost crying and also dying when watching the trailer. I WANT TO GO TO PARIS. ALWAYS! :'( I hope this opera soap comfort me awhile until I can really go to Paris hehehehe. I also hope the triangle love story is not boring, exaggerating anything and ruining my dream city :)

Most of comments on the video page said that this song sounds a lot like Carlifornia Girls' Katy Perry. At first time I heard the song, I said yes to that statement. But when you repeat it again and again, I don't think so :)

The Five-Year Engagement is a story about Tom and Violet. They just got engaged and preparing for their dream wedding. But they have to delay the wedding because Suzie, Violet’s sister, is pregnant and has to be married before the baby born. Then Violet got a job in University of Michigan. Tom who really loves her and wants to make her happy decided to move to Michigan from San Francisco. He leaves his job as chef, just a second after the head chef promoted for a new restaurant.

In Michigan, Violet is doing her job well and has best co-worker. She loves her job and it get extended for couple years more. Meanwhile, the best job that Tom got is in sandwich restaurant. He doesn’t happy but he doesn’t tell Violet. They keep delay the wedding and things goes complicated than ever. One day Violet drunk and kissed her boss. Tom knew it just a day before they tie on knot. Later, Tom and Violet figure out what to do with their relationship. Should they get married?

The Five-Year Engagement was sweet, romantic and funny. Tom and Violet is the perfect couple. They can understand each other. But that was the first 30 minutes. The rest was so boring and I was wondering when the credit would be come up. Last time I checked the movie was 2 hours long. Fuuihhh, at least it ends :p

Did I write that Tom and Violet is a perfect couple? Yes, they are. But minute by minute their sweet and romantic moments were getting boring, worse and even disgusting. I don’t know when that happens. All I can tell that chemistry between Emily Blunt and Jason Segel is gone in the middle of movie. Segel was wrote the script, produced the movie and played the main male lead. Then he should know that what’s good and right scene to this movie. But he might be too tired do all those job at the same time. So he didn’t perform his best.  Emily Blunt? I love her. I love her spirit and also her British accent when she is saying “dance” :p

Beside the story that kinda disappointed, I still have several questions that pop up on my mind. First, I don’t understand why couples in different culture than mine think that married matters when they live together already. Second, I was over thinking the donuts theory that Violet stated. And the last, the movie shows that men have to have higher position than women, in work place, relationship and family. I found out it when Tom has to struggle in sandwich restaurant when Violet enjoys her dream job. For you who already watched the movie, can you give some heads up? :O

At last, The Five-Year Engagement was a fine choice to fill your weekend. But make sure you ask friend to watch together or prepare snacks. So when the movie is getting boring and weird, you would not end up upset alone :D

The Next Three Days in Seventh Semester

As I wrote last week, the lecturer asked the class to present their research plan. Two groups which in Postcolonial and Feminism areas presented their plan this week. I choose Feminism as my interest of research and of course I presented my plan. My research plan is to compare a character in novel and film adaptation. It is a little rough but I am really excited to finish this. Wish me luck J

b.      Interview a person from a culture different from yours and focus on some aspects you want to explore about the person’s culture and compare it with your own.

c.       Observe the way people from different cultures communicate, whether there are some problems and how they overcome the problems.

d.      Give an account of a unique cultural practice in a certain culture and analyze how it relates to the cultural values of the culture.

e.      Choose one of the topics discussed in the class, write a response to the topic, relate it with your  experience and opinion from other expert.

Character Thursday #11: Alice on Alice in Wonderland

Alice adalah seorang gadis muda yang mempunyai rambut panjang ikal berwarna pirang. Dia mempunyai kakak perempuan yang tidak disebutkan namanya. Alice termasuk orang yang mempunyai rasa penasaran yang sangat tinggi. Hal itu dibuktikan pada saat Alice mengejar seekor kelinci dengan jam saku yang masuk kedalam sebuah lubang bawah tanah J

Alice juga bisa dibilang gadis yang berani. Dia mengikuti kelinci tersebut, mencoba segala macam makanan dan minuman yang mengubah ukuran badannya dan juga berkomunikasi dengan mahkluk-mahkluk ajaib dari negeri ajaib tersebut J

Sayangnya, rasa penasaran dan segala keberanian tersebut tidak didukung oleh pola pikir panjang dan sopan santun. Alice seringkali menyela perkataan lawan bicaranya, membicarakan sesuatu yang keluar dari konteks seperti membahas kemampuan luar biasa Dinah, kucing kesayangannya kepada seekor tikus dan gampang tersinggung atas reaksi yang bertentangan dengan kemampuannya.

Penjabaran tokoh Alice di novel ini agak berbeda dengan tokoh Alice dalam film yang disutradai Tim Burton. Walaupun keduanya mengusung judul yang sama, Alice dalam film lebih tua beberapa tahun dan dia mengunjungi negeri ajaib sebelumnya tapi dia lupa. Alice diperankan oleh Mia Wasikowska ini masih memiliki rasa penasaran yang besar tapi dia juga sudah mulai bertanggung jawab dan memperjuangkan hal yang dianggapnya benar J

Kenapa aku pilih novel klasik ini? Kita memang sudah menonton berbagai macam adaptasi cerita fantasi anak-anak ini dalam beberapa film. Tapi rasanya tidak lengkap kalau aku tidak membaca versi aslinya, walau dalam bentuk terjemahan bahasa Indonesia. J

Sampul novel yang lumayan tipis ini memperlihatkan Alice, dengan rambut pirang panjang ikal dan baju terusan berwarna biru muda yang sudah menjadi ciri khas, mengejar kelinci kedalam sebuah lubang bawah tanah. Kita semua tahu bahwa itu menjadi awal petualangan Alice di negeri ajaib, dan sekarang menjadi awal bagiku untuk mengetahui kisah asli Alice J

Petualangan Alice di negeri ajaib dibagi kedalam 12 bab. Setiap babnya menceritakan Alice yang bertemu berbagai macam orang, makhluk, dan segala hal yang tidak pernah dia temui sebelumnya. Dalam film adaptasinya, kita mungkin hanya pengenal kelinci dengan jam sakunya, sang pembuat topi yang senang menjamu tamu-tamunya dalam pesta minum teh, kucing Cheshire yang senang menyeringai, ulat bulu yang selalu sibuk dengan alat penghisapnya  atau seorang ratu yang kejam dan tak segan memenggal kepala setiap orang yang tidak sependapat dengannya. Padahal selain tokoh-tokoh yang sudah disebut itu, Alice bertemu dengan banyak orang (atau mahkluk) yang tidak kalah pentingnya. Contohnya seperti Gryphon yang membawanya bertemu kura-kura tiruan dan menceritakan sebuah cerita yang mengangumkan. Alice tampak senang dengan petualangannya itu. Hal itu tampak dai seringnya dia menyela perkataan lawan bicaranya. Tokoh Alice akan dibahas lebih lanjut besok J

Selain tokoh-tokoh yang banyak, perbedaan dan penemuan yang aku temukan ada di dalam cerita. Tiap bab menceritakan hal yang berbeda-beda dan kadang membuat pusing pikiran. Apalagi dengan beberapa puisi, lirik dan hal lain yang ditulis dalam ukuran huruf lebih kecil dan membentuk ekor tikus. Lalu aku berpikir, aku sendiri pusing dengan ceritanya, apakah anak kecil bisa memahaminya dan menikmatinya? Apakah ini salah satu efek dari penerjemahan? :o

Terlepas dari semua hal diatas, Alice in Wonderland adalah sebuah karya sastra yang tidak bisa dipisahkan dari masa kecil kita. Imajinasinya masih memberikan efek yang menganggumkan. Kita jadi ikut merasakan indahnya berimajinasi tentang negeri yang unik. Tapi tetap harus menanggung rasa pusing saat jatuh ke lubang bawah tanah. Decide your choice then J

Flying Monsters

My English Department visited TV One Pulo Gadung . The PR Department of TV One gave us a brief history of TV One, discussion about how they work and chance to internship, and also to look around the studios. It’s kinda remind me to Morning Glory J

Then we visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. Because of the limit of time, we agreed to went to Theater Keong Emas together and watched a documentary film about evolution of reptile J

 We arrived in Bandung at 8 pm, an hour earlier that schedule. Wow, this is the on-time study trip that I ever experienced! Super tired, super hungry but super happy :D
